Tamil Nadu Politics: Vijay’s TVK Government Faces Crisis as CPM Signals Withdrawal of Support Due to AIADMK Involvement

TVK Leader Vijay Unveils Support Initiatives for Farmers, MSMEs, and Tamil Nadu Police.
The political landscape in Tamil Nadu is facing fresh examination following a warning from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) regarding actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government. They cautioned that their support could be reevaluated if the AIADMK becomes incorporated into the ruling coalition.

CPI(M) state secretary P Shanmugam noted that the party would “reassess its political stance” should TVK officially partner with the AIADMK before the forthcoming Assembly elections, according to News18.

He emphasized that the Left remains open to backing those opposing the current government but would reconsider its alignment if AIADMK became involved in the coalition.
The party also mentioned that such a coalition would contradict the public mandate expressed during the latest Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Also Read | Falta repoll: TMC’s ‘Pushpa’ Jahangir withdraws; Suvendu takes ‘run away’ jibeVijay government survives with outside support

Vijay’s TVK stood out as the largest party in the Assembly elections, securing 108 out of 234 seats, just shy of the 118-seat majority required.

Subsequently, the party gained support from Congress, Left parties, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), allowing Vijay to successfully navigate the trust vote on May 13.

However, the trust vote revealed fractures within the AIADMK as 24 of its MLAs defied party directives and supported Vijay, despite opposition from AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami (commonly known as EPS).

The party has since commenced action against the dissenting legislators following anti-defection laws.
