At the age of 79, he had been hospitalized for several days before he passed away at his home.
Singh had recently stepped down from his role as the President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) due to health concerns. He had been elected for a four-year term starting in 2024.
”With profound sadness, we announce the demise of Raja Randhir Singh, who departed for his eternal rest today, on 27th May 2026,” stated Rajiv Bhatia, Secretary of the National Rifles Association of India (NRAI).
”A remarkable Olympian, Arjuna Awardee, and one of the most esteemed sports administrators in India, Asia, and the International Olympic Committee, Raja Randhir Singh made significant contributions to the advancement of shooting sports and the Olympic movement.
”The National Rifle Association of India, along with the entire shooting community, mourns this irreplaceable loss and extends sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul find eternal peace,” he added.
Singh’s illustrious sports career featured five Olympic participations and the historic trap gold medal at the 1978 Bangkok Asian Games.
In his equally remarkable administrative journey, he served as the Secretary General of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and was a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
