China supports discussions with Iran, stating that West Asia is at a crucial turning point between conflict and tranquility.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi in Beijing, where they reviewed the most recent developments concerning the Iran-US negotiations and Iran’s forthcoming actions.

Emphasizing that political crises cannot be resolved through military action, Iran’s Minister conveyed to his Chinese counterpart that the nation will “unyieldingly protect its national sovereignty and dignity, while consistently fostering consensus through peaceful negotiations to pursue a comprehensive and lasting solution.”

In a statement, China’s Foreign Ministry asserted that the international community shares a collective concern regarding the restoration of normal and secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz, expressing hope that the involved parties will swiftly respond to the international community’s strong appeals.
Regarding the nuclear issue, China acknowledged Iran’s commitment to refrain from developing nuclear weapons while affirming that Iran has a legitimate right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

China urged West Asian nations to “take charge of their own destinies,” encouraging Iran and more Gulf states to engage in dialogue aimed at fostering good-neighborliness and friendship. It “supports the creation of a regional peace and security framework among regional countries that promotes joint participation, protects common interests, and facilitates mutual development.”

Characterizing the current regional scenario as “at a critical juncture between war and peace,” China expressed that a “comprehensive ceasefire is urgently needed, that the resumption of hostilities is even less acceptable, and that maintaining negotiations is particularly crucial.”

Furthermore, it noted that “China backs Iran in preserving its national sovereignty and security and values Iran’s readiness to pursue a political solution via diplomatic means.”
