Donald Trump launches Independence Day celebrations with a speech at Mount Rushmore, asserting that ‘American identity is threatened.’

Audience Left Speechless by President Trump's Comments at Theodore Roosevelt Library Event
This follows six years after his national address from Mount Rushmore in 2020. The White House had previously indicated that Trump might be an ‘addition’ to the iconic mountain where the likenesses of four presidents—George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt—are carved.

The Republican leader delivered his remarks on a day marked by record-setting heat and severe thunderstorms across various regions, according to USA Today.

Trump stated that the US “will forever be the land of free men and women” and “will never fail.”
He referred to the United States as “the most exceptional nation to have ever existed in human history,” asserting that “no other country has done more good for this world.”

The 80-year-old underscored the unique identity of the US, emphasizing its culture of liberty. Trump mentioned that liberty thrived in the US “because of the culture and character of the people who declared it, defended it, and preserved it.”

He articulated that instilling that character remains the primary patriotic responsibility of every American.

Trump also utilized the speech to address what he termed a new threat to the country’s identity. He criticized domestic ‘radicals and extremists’, claiming that American identity was ‘under a renewed attack.’

“A generation after we fought and triumphed in the Cold War against the threat of communism, there is now a resurgence of the communist threat in our land,” he remarked, according to AFP. The Republican president has applied this label to several Democrats running in the upcoming elections.

Trump directed numerous criticisms at communism, denouncing it as “a mortal threat to American liberty” akin to 9/11, “the enemy of July 4, 1776,” “the enemy of the Constitution,” and generally “the enemy.”

“So, on the eve of this 250th anniversary of American heritage, we resolve and swear for all to hear that the citizens of the United States of America will swiftly vanquish communism,” Trump declared, as noted by NBC.

Trump emphasized that Americans cherish freedom above all and affirmed their intention to “give our country its identity back.”

He added, “You do not have to be born here, but you must cherish what we have built; you must love our country.”

Trump also addressed the upcoming November 2026 midterms, asserting that Republicans would only lose if they allowed themselves to falter by not passing the SAVE America Act, a significant election bill.

As he neared the conclusion of his 30-minute speech, Trump mentioned the US-Iran conflict, claiming that Tehran was ‘eager to settle’. He also suggested that the US granted Iran a week off for “a funeral because we are nice,” referring to the state funeral for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during US-Israeli airstrikes on February 28.

At the close of his address, Trump asserted that this marked the beginning “of the golden age of America.”

Trump is leveraging the 250th anniversary celebrations to galvanize political support for Republicans, including himself, as midterm elections approach in November. His approval ratings hover near historic lows, driven by the US-Iran conflict and rising living costs.
