Congress challenges BJP on 2047 strategy, demands MSP, employment, and OBC reservation in Madhya Pradesh.
The Congress, in opposition, claimed on Wednesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is creating “dreams” of a developed Madhya Pradesh for 2047, while citizens are seeking solutions to their immediate issues and fulfillment of pre-election commitments.

During the one-day special session commemorating the 70th anniversary of the inaugural Madhya Pradesh Assembly sitting, Opposition MLAs pushed for an extension of regular session durations and live broadcasting of House proceedings.

Before the discussion commenced, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav introduced a resolution aiming to transform Madhya Pradesh into a developed, self-sufficient, and prosperous state, pledging to work diligently towards this vision by 2047.
Opposition Leader Umang Singhar from the Congress welcomed the debate, stating that Madhya Pradesh should aspire to become a developed, self-reliant, and prosperous state, but emphasized that the government’s intentions must be genuine.

“Currently, farmers are anxious about fertilizer availability and the minimum support price (MSP) for their crops, youth are concerned about employment opportunities, and the working class is focused on fair wages. In summary, every segment of society is facing challenges,” observed Singhar.

He urged the government to address these commitments promptly rather than waiting until 2047.

“We require assurances, but not promises for 2047. We need guarantees for 2026. Farmers are seeking a guarantee of MSP on soybean, paddy, and wheat purchases. We demand this assurance from the government, not for 2047,” the Opposition member asserted.

Furthermore, he emphasized the need for guarantees regarding the 27 percent reservation for Other Backward Classes, as stated by the Congress leader.

Singhar called for an increase in the MLA development fund, round-the-clock electricity supply, an increase in ‘Ladli Behna’ stipends to Rs 3,000 per month, and a guarantee of 100 days of work for every laborer.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Congress member Hemant Katare also advocated for live broadcasts of Assembly sessions.

He noted that 75 percent of the nation’s population is involved in agriculture, suggesting that an agriculture-related curriculum should be mandatory in schools.

Katare proposed a law requiring the children of politicians and high-ranking officials to attend government schools, asserting that this would enhance the quality of education in state-run institutions.
