Policy assistance needs to extend beyond just physical infrastructure, according to AMD's Vamsi Boppana.

Vamsi Boppana, the Vice President of Artificial Intelligence at AMD, commented that AI is still in its nascent stage, with rapid adoption anticipated until 2027. He highlighted a notable increase in the need for AI inference — the technology that facilitates real-time interactions from AI models — and indicated that the emergence of more specialized applications, such as agentic AI, will greatly boost the demand for computational power, energy, and data center resources worldwide. While he welcomed India’s new 20-year tax break and the rising investments in data centers, Boppana warned that support from policies should extend beyond just physical infrastructure. To seize the AI opportunity fully, he stressed that India must also enhance its computational capacity, develop AI platforms, and improve deployment capabilities, arguing that the forthcoming growth phase will rely heavily on AI ecosystems in addition to data centers themselves.
