He secured victories in both the Bhabanipur and Nandigram seats during the recently held assembly elections and took his oath as an MLA from Bhabanipur that same day.
“Another candidate will be elected as MLA from Nandigram (in a bypoll). However, I will ensure that the people there do not feel my absence.”
“I am committed to fulfilling all the developmental pledges I made to the residents of Nandigram, along with the rest of the state,” Adhikari informed reporters at the Assembly grounds.

Reflecting on the 2009-2016 period when Phiroja Bibi served as a TMC MLA from Nandigram while Adhikari was a prominent figure in Mamata Banerjee’s party, he remarked, “I offered full support to Phiroja Bibi, the mother of a martyr in the 2008 Nandigram police firing, even though I wasn’t officially the MLA for that area. I intend to take on a similar role this time too.”
Adhikari triumphed over TMC leader Mamata Banerjee in her Bhabanipur stronghold during the recent Assembly elections, winning by a margin of 15,105 votes, and successfully defended his Nandigram seat against his closest competitor, Pabitra Kar of the Trinamool Congress, by 9,665 votes.
