West Bengal Chief Secretary Releases Directives on 'Crucial' Documents During BJP Victory

On Monday, May 4, the Chief Secretary of West Bengal mandated that departmental secretaries and office heads must ensure the safety and integrity of important documents.

Dushyant Nariala, the Chief Secretary, also issued a directive against unauthorized copying or scanning of documents.

“All Departmental Secretaries and Heads of Offices are urged to make certain that no vital paperwork or files are removed, damaged, or otherwise taken out of the offices,” the order noted, as reported by ANI.

“Unauthorized copying or scanning will not be allowed,” it further stated.

The chief secretary emphasized the need for proper documentation and accounting of all files and important communications.

“Heads of Departments and Departmental Secretaries must personally ensure compliance with these directives. Personal accountability will be established for any violations,” the order specified.

This directive follows the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surpassing the 200-seat mark in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections. The BJP has secured 66 seats, while the TMC has won 30 seats as of 7 PM, according to Election Commission data.

Currently, the BJP is leading in 138 seats, bringing their total to 204 seats.
