In a message on “X”, the US Central Command announced that the “additional self-defense strikes” were executed at 5:15 PM New York time in retaliation for Iran’s “unjust and ongoing aggression.”
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, referencing a military source prior to the attack, reported that the nation’s armed forces were fully equipped for new assaults and had the capacity to target more American assets.
The Central Command did not outline the specific targets involved in its announcement. However, Barak Ravid of Axios referenced an unnamed US official in his update, pointing out strike targets that include air defense systems, radars, and drone command and control units. Iran’s foreign ministry has accused the US of targeting civilian infrastructure in earlier strikes this week.
While signing the Secure America Act, Trump informed reporters that “we hit them hard yesterday, and we’re going to hit them hard again today,” suggesting that Iran should agree to the deal that the US believes is “meaningful and beneficial.”
Iran’s head of the national security commission in parliament, Ebrahim Azizi, stated on “X” that this time the “conflict will not be confined to the region.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump commented on Truth Social that the Iranian military is in complete disarray and that their Navy and Air Force no longer exist. “Iran is all talk and no action,” Trump remarked, adding that they took too long to negotiate a potentially advantageous deal and will now face the consequences.
Following the US’s new attacks, crude oil prices have surged, with West Texas Intermediate rising nearly 3% toward the $93 per barrel mark. Brent also concluded the session around $93 a barrel.
