Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, following his party’s success in the Assembly elections. Vijay took the oath in the name of God, as did the ministers in his cabinet, marking the start of his first term as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
In his congratulations to Tamil Nadu CM Vijay, Prime Minister Modi expressed that the Centre will continue to collaborate closely with the state government for the benefit of its citizens.
In a post on X, Modi stated, “Congratulations to Thiru C. Joseph Vijay on assuming office as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. I wish him an outstanding tenure. The Central Government will maintain collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Government to enhance the lives of its people.”
Rahul Gandhi, present at Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony in Chennai, remarked that the citizens of Tamil Nadu have selected “a new generation, a new voice, a new imagination.”

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also expressed his best wishes to the newly established government, hoping it will meet the people’s aspirations through “transparent and progressive governance.”
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake congratulated Vijay as well, emphasizing the enduring historical and cultural connections between Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu.
In his message, Dissanayake commented that Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu are united by “history, culture, enterprise, and enduring people-to-people ties across generations.” He expressed anticipation for collaboration within the larger India-Sri Lanka partnership for “greater prosperity and progress.”
TVK emerged as the largest party in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly with 108 seats, securing majority support with the backing of Congress, CPI, CPI(M), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, and the Indian Union Muslim League.
