More than 6.8 million attempts blocked on counting day to breach the Election Commission’s results portal.

West Bengal Voter List Update Approaches Finalization as Election Commission Resolves 5.2 Million Cases
On Wednesday, the Election Commission reported that there were over 68 lakh attempts from both India and abroad aimed at its critical election platforms, including the results portal on May 4 during the counting of votes for five assemblies.

In its statement, the electoral authority mentioned that ECINET’s cybersecurity measures effectively countered more than 68 lakh malicious attempts on the counting day, originating from both domestic and international sources targeting vital election platforms, such as the results portal.

The Election Commission noted that its IT platform, ECINET, played a pivotal role in optimizing election procedures, including real-time monitoring, which facilitated quicker reporting and improved transparency during the elections in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry.
Since its launch in January, the ECINET app has experienced a remarkable increase in usage, boasting over 10 crore downloads thus far.

The beta version of ECINET was utilized in the Bihar elections in November 2025. On election days, April 9, 23, and 29, ECINET recorded over 98.3 crore hits, and on the counting day, it averaged three crore hits per minute.

In an important move to enhance security at counting centres, a new QR code-based photo ID card system was implemented for the first time across all states and Union Territories (UTs) on the counting day through ECINET.

On the counting day, over 3.2 lakh QR codes were generated to ensure that only authorized personnel had access to counting locations, thereby preventing unauthorized entry at the counting centres.
