Kedarnath Yatra 2026 Starts on April 22, Enhanced with 360° Surveillance Measures
Preparations for the Char Dham Yatra 2026 are actively underway in Uttarakhand, with online and offline registration services now available for pilgrims. One of the most venerated shrines, the Kedarnath Temple, is set to open its doors on April 22.

Situated in the Garhwal Himalayan range, this temple attracts thousands of devotees from all over the country.

To ensure a secure and seamless pilgrimage, the district administration in Rudraprayag has implemented a sophisticated monitoring system along the Kedarnath Yatra route. A 24×7 control room has been established to closely monitor the entire yatra route, which extends from Gaurikund to the Kedarnath Temple.
Officials have enhanced surveillance even further by placing 360-degree cameras at strategic locations along the trekking route.

Additionally, about 90 more cameras have been installed throughout the highway, trekking route, and temple grounds. These systems are designed for real-time monitoring and swift response to any situations that may arise.

Authorities have also integrated a public announcement system to relay important updates, advisories, and directions to pilgrims as necessary during the yatra. Officials are optimistic that these measures will significantly enhance safety, crowd management, and ensure a more enjoyable pilgrimage experience.

Officers have also been deployed for vigilant monitoring

In a conversation with ANI, Rudraprayag District Magistrate Vishal Mishra shared that control rooms have been set up in each district. Sector and sub-sector officers have also been assigned for vigilant monitoring.

“To ensure the successful execution of the Kedarnath Yatra, we have established a control room in every district, which houses police, government personnel, and other essential staff. This control room operates around the clock. Sector and sub-sector officers have been appointed to oversee the entire area…Approximately 90 cameras have been placed…We can even offer guidance through this center. A public address system has also been installed. This command and control center, along with these high-quality cameras, will be extremely beneficial in successfully conducting the Yatra,” Mishra stated.

All processes have been streamlined

Meanwhile, Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee Chairman Hemant Dwivedi confirmed that preparations are complete at all administrative levels. Advance teams have been deployed to key locations, and all maintenance, pilgrim facilities, and puja arrangements have been organized ahead of the temple openings.

“At the government, administration, and district levels, as well as across all departments involved in the pilgrimage, all preparations have been finalized. Final touches are being applied. For the opening of Baba Kedar’s doors on the 22nd and Lord Badrinath’s doors on the 23rd, advance teams have already been dispatched. All maintenance, facilities for pilgrims, and puja arrangements have been thoroughly organized,” he noted.
