Donald Trump declares that sanctions on Iran will persist until a peace agreement is reached.
On Friday, April 17, US President Donald Trump stated that the naval blockade against Iran will persist until a complete agreement with Tehran is achieved.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that while the Strait of Hormuz is open for global shipping, the restrictions specifically targeting Iran will continue until the negotiations are finalized.

His comments followed an indication from Iran that the strategic waterway was accessible to all vessels after a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. However, Trump reiterated that the US will uphold the blockade on Iranian activities, stressing it will only be lifted once a fully signed agreement is in place.
“The Strait of Hormuz is entirely open and operational for business, but the naval blockade will remain in effect solely concerning Iran until our transaction with Iran is 100% complete. This process should progress swiftly, as most points are already negotiated. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he declared.

During a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix, the President referred to the reopening of the crucial waterway as a significant milestone, calling it “a great and brilliant day for the world,” attributing the outcome to US military pressure.

“We will maintain full enforcement regarding Iran until our transaction is completely signed and finalized,” Trump was reported as saying by Fox News, noting that the United States “will retrieve all nuclear dust,” referring to highly enriched uranium.

“No money will change hands in any shape or form. You know how we’re going to get the dust, right? … We’re going to take it anyway,” he added.

He also remarked that Iran, with the support of the US, “has removed or is in the process of removing all sea mines,” asserting that Iran “will never possess a nuclear weapon.”

In another post on Truth Social, he expressed gratitude to Iran for reopening the strait.

On Friday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced the Strait of Hormuz has been reopened to commercial shipping.

“In accordance with the ceasefire in Lebanon, all commercial vessel passage through the Strait of Hormuz is now declared completely open during the remaining period of the ceasefire, along the coordinated route as previously stated by the Ports and Maritime Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he shared on X.

However, on Saturday, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliamentary speaker, quickly challenged Trump’s assertion that Tehran had cleared the strait for transit.

In a post on X, he stated, “With the continuation of the blockade, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open.”

The remarks occur amid heightened tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts, with Washington asserting that discussions are active while insisting on strict terms for any agreement.
