In Japan, a 'human washing machine' that cleans and dries users in just 15 minutes is causing a stir.
A cutting-edge ‘human washing machine’ has been introduced in Japan, making its first appearance in Hokkaido.

Known as the ‘human washer of the future,’ this innovative device gained attention during the World Expo 2025 in Osaka. Created by the Japanese Tech Company Science, the capsule-style machine is priced at around 60 million yen ( 3.52 crore).

Users can lie inside, close the lid, and enjoy a comprehensive body cleanse. The inaugural unit of this Future Human Washing Machine has been acquired by a hotel in Osaka,
Travelers can experience the machine by scheduling a session at the Es Con Field Hokkaido Hotel Kitahiroshima Ekimae, where a 15-minute slot costs 12,000 yen (approximately 7,000) and can accommodate up to three guests.

Inside the capsule, users are immersed in water while ultra-fine microbubble technology deep cleans the body, removing the need for scrubbing by penetrating deep into pores.

At a media reveal, Japanese journalists who tried the device shared that the experience was incredibly relaxing, with a warm mist enveloping the body and creating a ‘soothing sensation.’

What more does the machine provide?

In addition to cleansing, the capsule offers a wellness-oriented experience. It plays personalized music and visuals while monitoring electrocardiographic (ECG) signals to assess the user’s autonomic nervous system condition in real time.

The 15-minute immersion is part of Japan’s traditional ‘totonoi’ wellness routine, which typically incorporates a sauna, cold bath, the machine wash, and concludes with outdoor air bathing.

“Through this, we aim to cultivate a wellness-oriented society where everyone can thrive in good health and beauty,” stated Yasuaki Aoyama, chairman of Science Holdings Co., Ltd., the developer of the device.

The Future Human Washing Machine is accessible year-round for hotel guests, although reservations and swimsuits are necessary. Children below elementary school age must be supervised by an adult.

Who else has acquired ‘The Human Washing Machine’?

As reported by The Japan Times, electronics retailer Yamada Denki has also obtained the Mirai Human Washing Machine to entice more visitors to its stores. A demonstration unit is displayed along with an interactive experience corner for guests.

Given its novelty, the company intends to manufacture only about 50 units, each priced at roughly 60 million yen (around 3.52 crore).

“We want people who couldn’t attend the expo to experience this technology,” Aoyama remarked during a press conference.
