Howrah Bally Assembly Protests Over EVM Issues at Don Bosco Liluah Sahanlal School, Two Individuals Detained by CRPF During Voting
An reported malfunction in an electronic voting machine (EVM) sparked unrest in the Bally Assembly constituency of the Howrah district on Wednesday, April 29.

The clash resulted in the CRPF detaining two individuals, as reported by news agency PTI.

The incident took place amid polling activities, prompting security personnel to intervene and prevent further escalation.
The disturbance occurred at a polling booth within Don Bosco Liluah Sahanlal School, where a technical issue with the EVM momentarily halted the voting process, according to India Today.

This interruption reportedly caused frustration among voters, leading to chaos at the location.

To manage the situation and restore order, security forces, including central personnel, were deployed. The central forces arrested two individuals linked to the incident, while a significant police presence remained in the area as a precaution.

Officials from the Howrah Police Commissionerate acted quickly to ensure voting could resume in an organized manner.

Further disturbances were reported at booths numbered 152, 153, and 154, but authorities indicated that the situation was stabilized later and appropriate measures were taken to ensure the polling process continued, as per India Today.

The Bally incident was part of several reports of violence and disruption during the second phase of polling in West Bengal. Clashes, vandalism, and claims of EVM malfunctions were noted in areas such as Chapra, Shantipur, and Bhangar.

In Entally, BJP candidate Priyana Tibrewal engaged in a verbal dispute with polling officials after her agent was removed from a booth. “See how irked they are. They have 10 people inside to get a button pressed…” she told reporters.

Meanwhile, in Chapra, a BJP polling agent was reportedly assaulted, with party leaders attributing the blame to Trinamool workers—an allegation the ruling party refuted.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the actions of central forces, stating, “Central forces are picking on our people… polling can’t be done like this,” and further claimed, “Votes will be cast by voters, not security forces… they are doing terrorism.”

The second phase of polling follows the voting on April 23, with results set to be announced on May 4.
