Gautam Munjal, Founder of Minimalist Hotels, highlighted that travellers are making faster decisions while seeking more customised experiences.
“We are witnessing a transition from room-focused bookings to experience-based stays, where guests select properties based on activities available rather than just the accommodation itself,” he explained, adding that tailored culinary experiences, communal areas, and community engagement are becoming more popular than traditional luxury features.
This trend is in line with significant shifts in booking habits.
Vidya Sagar, General Manager at Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, observed that booking periods have become shorter as travellers focus on flexibility during uncertain times. Demand remains robust, particularly from families looking for privacy, space, and seamless experiences. Villa accommodations and family-oriented travel options are becoming more favored, showcasing a desire for comfort coupled with exclusivity.
Industry insiders are also noting a growing preference for domestic travel.
Alka Ladhani, Executive Director at Sincere Developers – Taj Agra, mentioned that geopolitical influences and improved connectivity are motivating more travellers to explore local destinations within India. This has bolstered both individual travellers and group segments, such as meetings and events, particularly in regions with good connectivity.
Across various segments, experience is emerging as the key factor in decision-making.
Jose Ramapuram, Executive Director – Marketing at Evolve Back Resorts, referenced travel trend data showing that a substantial number of Indian travellers are now organising trips around personal interests like wellness, culture, and nature. He noted that while comfort is still a priority, travellers are increasingly assessing properties based on the experiences they offer.
This inclination is also evident in the types of activities that are seeing increased demand. Wellness-related offerings—such as yoga, meditation, and holistic therapies—are on the rise, along with culturally immersive experiences like local cuisine, heritage exploration, and community involvement. Activities focused on coastal and natural surroundings, such as curated outings and private tours, are also drawing significant interest.
Ibrahim Musan, Cluster Yield & Revenue Manager at JOALI Maldives and JOALI BEING, stated that shorter booking cycles are especially noticeable among travellers from India and neighboring regions. However, he pointed out that “the demand for the right experiences is still strong,” with guests favoring bundled, experience-driven packages over individual room upgrades.
Another significant trend is the increase in intentional travel. Many travellers are pursuing meaningful and tailored journeys—emphasizing relaxation, connection, and enrichment rather than just transactional stays.
This shift has generated a higher demand for extended stays in certain segments, especially where properties provide integrated experiences that blend accommodation, activities, and wellness.
