Ranked No. 2, Alcaraz sustained the injury during his first-round victory at the Barcelona Open this month and withdrew the following day.
He has also withdrawn from this week’s Madrid Open, attending the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid with his wrist in a brace on Monday. At the event, Alcaraz was honored as the world sportsman of the year.
After undergoing further medical evaluations on Friday, Alcaraz confirmed he would not compete in Paris.
“Following the results from the tests conducted today, we believe that it’s best to be cautious and not take part in Rome and Roland Garros,” he stated on X. “This is a challenging time for me, but I am confident we will emerge stronger from this situation.”
Alcaraz began the year in spectacular fashion, defeating Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final, becoming the youngest man to win all four major tennis titles.
Since then, he has claimed just one title — at Doha in February — and will enter the major clay-court events without a trophy. He lost to Jannik Sinner in the Monte Carlo final earlier this month and has since relinquished the No. 1 ranking to his Italian competitor.
Last year, Alcaraz faced Sinner in the finals of both the Italian Open and French Open, where he saved three match points in a thrilling encounter. He later lost to Sinner in the Wimbledon final but bested him again in the U.S. Open final.
The Italian Open begins on May 5, while the French Open starts on May 18.
