The South African pacer has been transferred to Max Hospital on Pusa Road for further medical assessment.
The incident took place on the third delivery of the second over when Ngidi tried to catch a misplayed shot from Punjab opener Priyansh Arya off Axar Patel. Misjudging the ball’s path, Ngidi jumped but the ball slipped past his outstretched right hand, resulting in a hard and awkward fall.
Consequently, the Proteas player fell onto his back, causing the back of his head to hit the Arun Jaitley Stadium surface, leaving him in significant discomfort.
He quickly covered his head, attempting to recover from the incident, as on-field medical personnel rushed to assist Ngidi with a stretcher.
Ngidi was seen responding to the support staff while fellow Proteas players Tristan Stubbs and David Miller, along with Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting and DC head coach Hemang Badani, came over to check on him.
Unfortunately, he had to be stretchered into the ambulance before being taken to the hospital.
Spinner Vipraj Nigam has joined the field to replace Ngidi.
