Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika Claims Jagiroad Seat with a 93,584 Vote Margin, Secures MLA Position for the Fourth Time

On Monday, Assam minister Pijush Hazarika secured victory in the Jagiroad assembly seat, defeating the Congress candidate by a margin of 93,584 votes, according to the Election Commission.

The BJP leader has successfully retained the Jagiroad seat for three consecutive terms, achieving his fourth tenure as an MLA.

Hazarika’s electoral journey began in 2011 with his win in the Raha seat, followed by triumphs in the Jagiroad constituency in 2016, 2021, and now in 2026.
He received a total of 1,55,129 votes, whereas Congress candidate Bubul Das garnered 61,545 votes, as per the EC statistics.

The Assam Minister, who oversees portfolios including Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs, and Information & Public Relations, was previously a member of the Congress party and is regarded as a close ally of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He also served as a minister in the initial BJP government led by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
