Assam Elections: Exploring BJP's Manifesto Promises of ₹5 Lakh Crore Investment for a $150 Billion Economy
The NDA, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has successfully secured a third consecutive term in Assam. Notably, this marks the first time the party has independently surpassed the majority threshold.

The success was fueled by an unprecedented voter turnout and modifications in delimitation that altered the electoral landscape in the state. Assam experienced its highest voter participation ever, achieving a turnout of 85.38%.

The BJP clinched 82 out of the 90 seats it contested. Additionally, its partners—the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)—each won 10 seats, bringing the NDA’s total to 102 in the 126-member Assembly.
The opposition, Indian National Congress (INC), managed to secure 19 seats, while the All-India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Raijor Dal each attained two seats. The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won one seat.

Prior to the Assembly elections in Assam, the BJP launched a manifesto detailing various cultural, economic, and governance-related promises aimed at reinforcing its influence in the state. This document, revealed by Nirmala Sitharaman, encompasses 31 significant commitments under the party’s ‘Sankalp Patra.’

Within its manifesto, the BJP has vowed to protect land, heritage, and cultural rights, in addition to committing to strict measures against encroachments and efforts to enhance law and order. The introduction of a Uniform Civil Code has also been proposed. Economically, the party aims to invest ₹5 lakh crore to transform Assam into a significant economic hub and the eastern gateway of India.

The BJP will guarantee the prompt implementation of all signed peace accords.

The party aspires to double Assam’s economy to $150 billion by 2031 and elevate it to $300 billion by 2036.

It plans to launch the Asom Parjyatan Bikash Abhijan to enhance Assam’s status as a prime tourism destination.

The party will continue providing rice, masur dal, sugar, and salt at subsidized rates, including mustard oil, along with free rations for the most impoverished families.

The party intends to fortify income security for farmers and offer financial aid to fish farmers, providing income support during non-fishing periods.

It has pledged to promote inclusive development and land security for tribal and indigenous communities.

With over 22 lakh houses completed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin and Urban), the BJP plans to construct an additional 15 lakh houses to ensure every family has access to a pucca house with essential amenities.

Here are more promises from the BJP manifesto for Assam:
