Anthropic enlists Amlan Mohanty to spearhead its policy initiatives in India.
Anthropic has named tech policy specialist Amlan Mohanty to spearhead its public policy initiatives in India, as the company expands its team to capitalize on one of the fastest-growing AI markets.Mohanty, who has experience in government, academia, and industry, shared the news in a LinkedIn post, emphasizing that India plays a crucial role in the future of AI due to its scale, diversity, and potential for global replication.

“I admire Anthropic’s research-focused and safety-first approach to AI development, which resonates with my personal values. The individuals I’ve encountered are intelligent, mission-oriented, and genuinely honest – they produce exceptional products at remarkable speed,” Mohanty stated.

He mentioned that his responsibilities will involve forging partnerships with government entities, industry players, and civil society while establishing the company’s presence in the region.
Mohanty previously served as the lead writer for India’s AI governance guidelines and held a position at Google India from 2018 to 2022, where he managed privacy, platforms, and responsible AI initiatives.

“After just two weeks in a leading AI lab, I am increasingly convinced of this technology’s ability to dramatically enhance our lives. However, we must remain vigilant about the risks and proceed with care,” he added.

Anthropic, supported by investors like Amazon and Google, is recognized for its leading chatbot, Claude. Earlier this year, the AI firm appointed former Microsoft executive Irina Ghose as its Managing Director for India in January.
