Sudharsan sustained a toe injury during India’s ‘A’ tour of Sri Lanka last month and has been recuperating at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
The BCCI indicated that the left-hander has shown notable improvement but continues to be monitored by its medical staff.
“The men’s Selection Committee has included Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. He will join the Indian squad in Colombo before the team heads to Galle for the first Test match, commencing August 15, 2026,” the BCCI stated in a press release.
This call-up signifies Sarfaraz’s return to the Indian Test setup after his last appearance against New Zealand in Mumbai in 2024.
The 28-year-old has participated in six Tests for India since making his debut and will now serve as an additional batting option for the team ahead of the series opener in Galle.
India had previously lost pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the tour due to injury, with Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi appointed as his substitute. The two-Test series against Sri Lanka is set to kick off in Galle on August 15, with the second Test taking place in Colombo from August 23.
