Meta introduces ‘Seller,’ a new app offering sales tools for merchants.

Meta appoints Alex Schultz as its inaugural chief data officer.
Meta introduced a new app named “Seller” on Friday, aimed at providing specialized selling tools for merchants utilizing the company’s Facebook Marketplace for trading goods.

The rise in shopping activity within Facebook groups led the social media powerhouse to launch Marketplace a decade ago, creating revenue from promoted listings.

Here are some highlights:
• Meta aims to enhance its Marketplace features to better compete with e-commerce sites like eBay, while improving the shopping experience on a platform that sees 430 million items listed each month worldwide.
• The “Seller” app is built to integrate with existing Marketplace accounts, transferring current listings, messages, and sales history.

• It includes AI-driven tools for listing creation, a consolidated inbox for buyer interactions, inventory management options, and performance analytics to assist sellers in refining their strategies.

• The company announced that “Seller” is now accessible on the App Store for U.S. users aged 18 and older, with a web version being trialed for app downloaders.

• Additionally, Facebook is rolling out “Facebook Verified,” a free badge that confirms a real person is behind a profile, as stated by the company.

• The verification process requires a selfie to help mitigate concerns regarding authenticity and safety.

• In May, Meta launched an app called “Forum” for users of Facebook Groups.
