This resignation follows the detention of eight individuals related to the case, including employees involved in counting duties, the head of the counting operation, a retired banker overseeing the process, and Ramashankar Yadav, popularly known as Tinnu, a driver and close aide of General Secretary Champat Rai.
On June 25, a formal complaint regarding the alleged embezzlement of funds collected at the Ayodhya Ram Temple was lodged. Following orders from the Uttar Pradesh government, this complaint has been filed under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 306, 316(5), 317(4), 317(5), 61, and 3(5).

In response to a request from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir Trust, the state government formed a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) on June 14 to examine the alleged inconsistencies in donation funds. The FIR was initiated based on the SIT’s preliminary findings.
Concerns arose after allegations that some donations collected by the temple were unaccounted for, prompting scrutiny into the alleged discrepancies. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust sought a government inquiry into the matter amid escalating controversy.
A three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was set up by the Uttar Pradesh government on June 14 to investigate these claims, and two days after the panel released its preliminary report on June 23, a formal complaint was lodged against eight individuals.
