Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu extended their congratulations to the Indian women’s football team for securing victory in the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026, expressing that this achievement will inspire more young people to engage in football in the future.

“Kudos to the Indian Women’s Football Team for winning the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026. Their performance throughout the tournament has been exceptional. This triumph will motivate more young individuals to take up football in the coming years. Best wishes to the team for their future pursuits,” Modi stated in a message on X.

India has reclaimed the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) Women’s Championship title for the sixth time, marking their first victory in seven years with a convincing 3-1 defeat of Bangladesh in the final match held in Goa on Saturday.

“Warmest congratulations to the Indian Women’s Football Team on their triumph in the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026! Our female athletes showcased outstanding skills, teamwork, and resolve throughout the tournament,” President Murmu remarked in a message on X.

“I believe that their remarkable success will encourage young girls across the country to chase their aspirations with confidence and bravery,” the president added.
