Rubio noted that the negotiations are still “a work in progress” and that Washington feels it has presented a “pretty solid thing on the table,” while awaiting a response from Tehran.
“We anticipated having some updates last night. It takes some time to receive a response,” Rubio remarked, indicating there’s a “real, significant time limit” concerning the nuclear issue.
Rubio affirmed that Trump prefers to take the necessary time for negotiations rather than accept what he perceives as a weak agreement.
“The President has made it clear he is not in a rush and will not make a poor deal,” Rubio said. “I am very confident. We will either secure a good agreement, or we will have to manage it in a different manner. We would rather have a good agreement.”
These comments followed Trump’s assertion that the current discussions with Tehran were progressing in an “orderly and constructive manner,” while reiterating that the US would uphold its naval blockade until a definitive agreement is reached and officially signed.
“The Blockade will remain in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed,” Trump stated, indicating that Washington would continue its economic and maritime pressure on Tehran throughout the negotiations.
At the same time, Trump adopted a more conciliatory position regarding overall relations with Iran, asserting, “Our relationship with Iran is evolving into a much more professional and productive one.”
He reiterated that Tehran “cannot develop or acquire a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb,” while also suggesting that Iran may eventually join the Abraham Accords.
