Suvendu Adhikari, recognized for leading the Bharatiya Janata Party to a notable victory against the All India Trinamool Congress, will officially take the oath as the subsequent Chief Minister of West Bengal. The ceremony is slated for 10 am on May 9 at Brigade Parade Ground.
In light of the many prominent leaders attending, the Kolkata Police have introduced several restrictions, including a temporary prohibition on drones, UAVs, balloons, gliders, and non-scheduled aircraft within a 3-km radius of the event and up to 500 meters in altitude from 6 am to 6 pm on Saturday.
Authorities stated that these measures aim to mitigate potential security threats and ensure stringent protection for visiting dignitaries and VVIPs.
Additional security personnel have been deployed, and multiple layers of security zones have been established around the venue and along critical routes leading to the site of the ceremony.
Traffic regulations will be enforced in several areas of central Kolkata, including the Esplanade ramp, Khiddirpore Road, Hospital Road, Casuarina Avenue, and Queens Way. Commuters are advised to adhere to official traffic updates to prevent congestion.
Goods vehicles will be prohibited from operating in the city from 4 am to 8 pm on May 9, although vehicles transporting essential supplies such as medicines, vegetables, milk, and oxygen will be exempt from this ban.
Parking restrictions are also in effect around the venue, affecting areas near Victoria Memorial, Cathedral Road, Queens Way, and Lovers Lane.
In addition to Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several senior BJP officials are anticipated to be present at the oath-taking ceremony.
