TVK's Vijay to be sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 9 at 11 AM.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Saturday at 11 am, amidst rapid political developments regarding government formation in the state, as reported by CNN-News18.

Vijay has made significant strides toward establishing the government in Tamil Nadu following the unconditional support from the Communist Party of India (CPI) to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Additional backing from smaller parties is also anticipated. TVK leader Kamaraj announced that the party has surpassed the 118-seat mark and expressed confidence in securing a full majority in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. “Currently, TVK is poised to achieve full majority,” he stated.

Vijay visited Lok Bhavan on Friday evening for a meeting with RV Arlekar, as tensions continue regarding the government’s formation in Tamil Nadu. This meeting marks Vijay’s third discussion with the Governor within three days as TVK ramps up efforts to make its claim for government formation.
In parallel, TVK has petitioned the Supreme Court of India for guidance, urging the Governor to invite the party to form the state government, according to PTI.
During a joint press conference with CPI(M), CPI State Secretary R. Mutharasan mentioned that TVK sought support from CPI, CPI(M), and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK). “Discussions were held within the party, and the decision was made democratically. In a democracy, fluctuations are routine. The people of Tamil Nadu have expressed their preference for TVK,” he stated.

In response to the situation, CPI General Secretary D. Raja remarked, “TVK reached out to CPI, CPI(M), and VCK in Tamil Nadu. Our party’s Tamil Nadu unit aligned its stance with the national leadership. We have decided to support TVK in forming the government and have requested the Governor to invite the leader of the single-largest party, TVK, to assume power.”

Reports indicate that the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and other smaller factions are likely to endorse TVK following engagement efforts by Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge.

TVK obtained 108 seats in the Assembly elections, while the Indian National Congress won five seats, and both CPI, CPI(M), and VCK secured two seats each.
