2026 Assembly Elections: PM Modi Calls for Increased Voter Participation in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry

On Thursday, April 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged voters in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry to enthusiastically participate in the ongoing Assembly elections, calling for a significant turnout to exercise their democratic rights.

Polling is taking place for the 126-member Assembly in Assam, the 140-member Assembly in Kerala, and the 30-seat Assembly in Puducherry.

The Prime Minister shared distinct messages on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in various languages, including English and the regional languages of the respective areas—Assamese, Malayalam, and Tamil.
In his message to Assam voters, Modi urged the public to view the election as a celebration of democracy and civic duty.

“As polling commences for the Assam Assembly elections 2026, I urge the citizens of Assam to cast their votes in large numbers. I hope that the youth and women of the state engage actively and make this election a true celebration of democracy and public commitment,” he stated in a post on X.

Special appeal to youth and women

The Prime Minister made a similar plea to voters in Kerala, stressing the significance of robust voter participation in enhancing the state’s democratic ethos.

“I especially encourage the youth and women of the state to come forward and vote in substantial numbers,” PM Modi remarked.

In another message, Modi called on citizens in Puducherry to engage actively in the electoral process and underscored the significance of each vote in shaping the future of the Union Territory.

“I particularly appeal to our youth and women voters to bolster the democratic process. Every vote is crucial in determining the future of Puducherry,” he said.

Assembly polls 2026 underway 

The Puducherry Legislative Assembly comprises 30 elected members, along with three members appointed by the central government. Voting in all three regions is being conducted under strict security and electoral supervision.
