West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is set to visit the Darjeeling hills on Tuesday, marking his first trip to the area since taking office. During this visit, he will assess the current situation in the region, conduct administrative meetings, and take part in a government outreach programme, according to an official.

Although Adhikari has previously visited several districts in north Bengal, including Siliguri, this will be his first tour of the hills as chief minister.

The chief minister is expected to arrive at Goethals Memorial School in Kurseong around 11 am, where he will personally distribute the benefits of various welfare schemes to recipients, the official stated.
The programme will encompass several key initiatives, including Annapurna Yojana and Ayushman Bharat, among others.

“The chief minister will evaluate ongoing development projects and consider local issues. The government aims to enhance service delivery and boost development in the hill regions,” the bureaucrat informed PTI, choosing to remain anonymous.

Preparations are underway to ensure the seamless execution of the programme.

“This visit holds significance as it merges welfare delivery, administrative review, and political outreach. Necessary coordination has been established across various departments,” he added.

In addition to the government event, Adhikari is also anticipated to meet with BJP leaders in Kurseong.

Sources indicate that the meeting will likely include the Darjeeling MP and the BJP’s three MLAs from the hills.

The visit has sparked heightened activity at both administrative and political levels in the region.

Officials have been busy with preparations since Monday, while the administration has opted to regulate vehicle movement in parts of Kurseong and Darjeeling on Tuesday to accommodate the chief minister’s schedule.
