View | Mumbai Woman Challenges BJP Minister on Traffic Chaos During Rally: 'Leave Now'
A woman challenged Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan and police authorities regarding severe traffic delays caused by a political rally in the Worli area on Tuesday, April 21.

This incident, captured on video and shared widely on social media, has ignited a discussion about the public disturbances during political events.

The disruption occurred during a protest march organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance. The rally aimed to protest the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), including Congress, following the Lok Sabha’s failure to pass the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill.

Set to begin at 5 pm, the march attracted a significant number of participants, especially women, and spanned a route from Jambhori Maidan to the Dome in Worli.

The Jambhori Maidan area is highly populated, home to residents from the BDD chawls, typically experiencing heavy traffic in both directions.

However, a delay in the rally’s commencement caused a major traffic jam, stranding commuters for hours. Among them was a woman trying to pick up her child from school, caught in the gridlock.

Irritated by the circumstances, she exited her vehicle and walked into the heart of the protest, confronting Mahajan and questioning the organizers about obstructing public roads.

Expressing her displeasure regarding the disruption, she demanded that the rally be cleared, urging the crowd to disperse.

She voiced her frustration with the police, insisting on speaking with higher officials as officers tried to intervene. The situation escalated into a brief heated exchange before police personnel guided her aside to hear her concerns.

In the footage, she can be heard saying, “Get out of here! You are causing a traffic jam.” She pointed to an adjacent open field, questioning the rationale for blocking busy streets, stating, “Did you not understand? What is wrong with you? There are hundreds of people waiting. There is empty ground there.”

The confrontation video quickly gained traction online, prompting strong political responses. Sharing the clip, Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal claimed the campaign on women’s reservations revealed its “true face”.

“Today, only Minister Girish Mahajan has been confronted. In the future, women across the country will not rest until they usher the BJP out of power in a similar fashion,” he added on X.

Former state Congress president Nana Patole also shared the video on X, commenting, “Mental Distress to Common Citizens Due to BJP’s Drama!”

Responding to the event, he stated that the confrontation highlighted rising public irritation towards disruptions stemming from such protests. “The citizens of the country are now tired of the BJP’s false narrative. In the near future, women’s power will undoubtedly drive the BJP out of control in a similar manner,” he concluded.
