The Department of State confirmed the itinerary, which includes stops in Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi.
“Secretary Rubio will be in India from May 23-26, visiting Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi,” said State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott.
During his meetings with senior Indian officials, the Secretary will focus on discussions surrounding energy, security, trade, and defense cooperation, Pigott noted.
Rubio will journey from Sweden to India in preparation for the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting on May 22.
India is primed to host a gathering of Quad foreign ministers the following week, expected to address significant global challenges, including the ramifications of the West Asia crisis.
The meeting in New Delhi is set for May 26, with Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu in attendance, under the presiding leadership of Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
