TSMC’s Monthly Revenue Surges 30% Driven by Strong Demand for AI Chips

TSMC, Taiwan's semiconductor manufacturer, announces a 58% increase in profits but cautions about the potential effects of the Iran conflict.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. announced a 30% increase in its monthly sales, demonstrating sustained demand driven by a global push to develop AI infrastructure.

In May, revenue amounted to NT$416.98 billion ($13.2 billion), with combined sales for April and May rising approximately 24% year-over-year, according to calculations from Bloomberg. Analysts anticipate a 35% growth in sales for the second quarter.

As the largest company in Asia, TSMC has positioned itself as a vital player in the global AI ecosystem by producing advanced semiconductors for companies like Nvidia Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. This comes as Alphabet Inc., Amazon.com Inc., Meta Platforms Inc., and Microsoft Corp. are set to allocate $725 billion for AI-related investments this year, significantly exceeding prior expectations.

TSMC has expressed optimism regarding global demand for AI chips. Chief Executive Officer C.C. Wei informed shareholders earlier this month that the global supply of chips will not meet demand for years, just days after Nvidia’s Jensen Huang remarked that his company remains supply-constrained.

In April, the Taiwanese chip manufacturer increased its full-year sales forecast and indicated that its capital expenditure is likely to trend toward the upper limit of an existing projection of up to $56 billion by 2026.

Nevertheless, TSMC also provides chips to smartphone and consumer electronics manufacturers, who are facing challenges from rising memory chip prices and consumer sentiment negatively impacted by increasing living costs.
