Taking action against the airline for its failure to timely file GST returns, the GST department has issued a show-cause notice aiming to cancel the company’s GST registration, according to the official.
As per the GST department, SpiceJet has repeatedly engaged in irregularities concerning the timely submission of GST returns. Consequently, a provisional assessment was initiated under Section 62 of the CGST and SGST Act, 2017. This led to a total tax demand of ₹124.65 crore being assessed for various periods.

GST officials noted that a show-cause notice was issued on May 25, 2026, regarding the potential cancellation of the company’s GST registration. However, the company has still not filed its outstanding returns.
“Should SpiceJet fail to promptly file its outstanding returns and adhere to its statutory obligations under the GST law, further actions will be taken as per the regulations,” stated an official.
Efforts to reach officials at SpiceJet for comments have been unsuccessful.
