S. Jaishankar discusses West Asia and trade relations with counterparts from Egypt and Thailand during the BRICS meeting.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in bilateral discussions with his counterparts from Egypt and Thailand on Thursday, aiming to enhance relations with both nations, with the situation in West Asia also being a topic of concern.

The individual meetings with Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, and Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, occurred during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) in Delhi, under India’s presidency of the group.

In a series of posts on X, the EAM also posted images from the various bilateral meetings he attended with different leaders.
“Always a pleasure to meet FM Badr Abdelatty, this time on the sidelines of #BRICSIndia2026 FMM. We discussed developments at the BRICS FMM and had an engaging exchange regarding West Asia,” Jaishankar tweeted.

In another post, he provided insights into his discussions with his Thai counterpart.

“Great meeting with DPM & FM @SihasakPH of Thailand this evening. Our talks revolved around enhancing India-Thailand cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, connectivity, maritime, and defense. We also exchanged views on Myanmar and West Asia. #BRICSIndia2026,” Jaishankar commented.

On Thursday, India called upon BRICS nations to explore “practical approaches” to effectively manage the consequences of geopolitical turmoil and trade disturbances, emphasizing the vital role of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving global conflicts.

Jaishankar made these comments at a BRICS gathering in New Delhi, which was attended by foreign ministers from Iran, Russia, Brazil, and other member states.

The India-hosted meeting gained added significance as the important bloc seeks to address the economic repercussions of the West Asia crisis, notably the substantial disruptions in energy supply caused by the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran.

In another update, Jaishankar expressed, “Pleased to meet FM Gedion Timothewos Hessebon of Ethiopia. @GHessebon We reviewed the progress on decisions made during PM @narendramodi’s visit to Addis Ababa last year and discussed regional matters of mutual concern. Both sides are dedicated to further strengthening our Strategic Partnership.”
