The visit will commence with an official trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on May 15th, where he will meet President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss bilateral matters, focusing on energy cooperation, along with regional and international topics of shared concern.
They will also explore avenues to strengthen the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, supported by robust political, cultural, economic, and people-to-people connections. The trip is aimed at promoting significant trade and investment ties between the two nations.
The UAE is India’s third-largest trade partner and seventh-largest source of cumulative investment over the past 25 years, also hosting a vibrant Indian community of over 4.5 million.
For the second leg of his journey, PM Modi will officially visit the Netherlands from May 15th to 17th, at the invitation of Prime Minister Rob Jetten.
This visit marks PM Modi’s second trip to the Netherlands since his previous visit in 2017. During this time, he is expected to meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, as well as have discussions with Prime Minister Rob Jetten.
The purpose of this visit is to build on high-level engagements and foster close collaboration across various sectors, including defense, security, innovation, green hydrogen, semiconductors, and a Strategic Partnership on Water.
The Netherlands serves as one of India’s largest trading partners in Europe, with bilateral trade amounting to $27.8 billion (FY 2024-25), and is India’s fourth-largest investor, with total FDI at $55.6 billion.
Next, at the invitation of Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, PM Modi will visit Gothenburg on May 17th and 18th. His earlier visit to Sweden took place in 2018 during the inaugural India-Nordic Summit.
During this segment of the trip, PM Modi is anticipated to engage in talks with PM Kristersson to assess their bilateral relations and identify new cooperation opportunities. This includes enhancing bilateral trade, which is currently valued at $7.75 billion (2025), and Swedish FDI in India, which has reached $2.825 billion (2000-2025), alongside collaborations in green transition, AI, emerging technologies, startups, supply chain resilience, defense, space, climate initiatives, and cultural exchanges.

In the fourth segment of his tour, PM Modi will conduct an official visit to Norway on May 18th and 19th for the 3rd India-Nordic Summit and related bilateral discussions. This will be his inaugural visit to Norway, marking the first Prime Ministerial visit from India in 43 years.
He is scheduled to meet King Harald V and Queen Sonja, and hold talks with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. PM Modi will also speak at the India-Norway Business and Research Summit alongside the Norwegian Prime Minister.
A government announcement has indicated that this visit will facilitate growth in bilateral trade currently projected to be around $2.73 billion (in 2024), along with investments from Norway’s Government Pension Fund (GPFG) nearing $28 billion in the Indian capital market.
The 3rd India-Nordic Summit is set to occur in Oslo on May 19th. PM Modi will join leaders including Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre of Norway; Mette Frederiksen of Denmark; Petteri Orpo of Finland; Kristrún Frostadóttir of Iceland; and Ulf Kristersson of Sweden.
The goal of the Summit is to build on previous meetings held in Stockholm in April 2018 and Copenhagen in May 2022, aiming to deepen the strategic relationship between India and Nordic countries, particularly in areas like technology and innovation, renewable energy and sustainability, the blue economy, defense, space research, and Arctic collaboration.
This visit is intended to boost India’s bilateral trade ($19 billion in 2024) and investment relationships with Nordic countries, also aiming to create more resilient supply chains following the India-EU FTA and the India-EFTA TEPA.
Finally, at the invitation of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, PM Modi will undertake an official visit to Italy on May 19th and 20th. His last trip to Italy occurred in June 2024 for the G7 Summit.
Additionally, during this visit, PM Modi is expected to meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella and have discussions with Prime Minister Meloni. This visit coincides with a growing momentum in bilateral relations, as both nations actively work on implementing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, a comprehensive roadmap for cooperation across various sectors, including bilateral trade which hit $16.77 billion in 2025, as well as boosting investment from cumulative FDI amounting to $3.66 billion (April 2000 – September 2025), alongside collaboration in defense and security, clean energy, innovation, and cultural exchanges.
