OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Work, Intensifying Rivalry in Professional AI Applications

OpenAI Secures US Authorization for Extensive GPT-5.6 Launch, According to Axios
On Thursday, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Work, an extension of its well-known chatbot designed to perform tasks across various applications and files, representing the startup’s latest initiative in workplace automation.

ChatGPT Work, utilizing GPT-5.6, can extract context from applications, files, and workflows to generate polished documents, spreadsheets, presentations, reports, and websites, according to the company.

This launch underscores the growing competition to develop and market AI tools for professional settings, as tech companies aim to take advantage of the increasing demand for autonomous agents capable of handling complex tasks with minimal human oversight.
ChatGPT Work arrives just months after OpenAI’s competitor, Anthropic, advanced its enterprise strategy with Claude Cowork, an agent that can autonomously plan and execute multi-step tasks.

In addition, OpenAI, which is gearing up for its IPO, revealed a new ChatGPT desktop app and a hosted websites feature that enables users to create and share websites directly through Work.

ChatGPT Work will be available starting Thursday on both web and mobile platforms, with a broader rollout over the following days.
