Nepal's Kami Rita Sherpa Ascends Mount Everest for the 32nd Time, Sets New Personal Record
Kami Rita Sherpa, a renowned mountaineer from Nepal, made headlines on Sunday by surpassing his own world record for the most ascents of Mt Everest, reaching the summit for the 32nd time.

The 56-year-old climber, affectionately known as ‘Everest Man’, arrived at the 8,848.86-metre peak (29,032 feet) at 10:12 am, according to the Department of Tourism.

He was leading an expedition managed by 14 Peaks Expedition, as reported.
The successful climb was verified by the department’s field office at Everest Base Camp, as stated by The Kathmandu Post.

Born in January 1970 in Thame village of Solukhumbu district in Koshi Province, Kami Rita embarked on his professional mountaineering journey in 1992 and made his first ascent of Mt Everest in 1994.

The Department of Tourism praised Sherpa for his achievement, noting his substantial impact on Nepal’s mountaineering industry and its global reputation.

Kami Rita has reached Sagarmatha, the Nepali name for the peak, twice in both 2023 and 2024. He accomplished his 31st ascent on May 27, 2025. From 1994 to 2025, he has also summited K2 and Mt Lhotse once, Manaslu three times, and Cho Oyu eight times, all over 8,000 metres.

In a related news, Lhakpa Sherpa, known as the ‘Mountain Queen’ and the first Nepali woman to reach Mt Everest’s summit, also set a new record by completing her 11th successful ascent of the mountain on Sunday.

She achieved the peak at 9:30 am, as confirmed by the Department of Tourism.
