This event marks the first full day of commercial operation following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s formal inauguration of the entire 82-km Delhi-Meerut corridor and the new Meerut Metro link.
“On Monday, with the final train scheduled to leave at 10 pm, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) expects to exceed 1 lakh commuters,” the organization stated.
This is the highest ridership recorded along the corridor so far, they noted.
A video captured at the Begumpul station in Meerut showcased eager passengers looking forward to the new service. The footage depicted large crowds gathering on the spacious concourse early in the morning, with many families and young people taking selfies and photos inside the train and the station.
Some commuters in the video were seen tossing flower petals onto the platform as the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) train approached, while others waved enthusiastically.
The visuals displayed organized queues forming at ticket counters and platform entrances, with station staff assisting first-time riders and explaining safety measures.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the remaining segments of the RRTS — the 5-km stretch connecting Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, along with the 21-km extension from Meerut South to Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.
Engineered for speeds reaching up to 180 kmph, the Namo Bharat system aims to significantly cut travel times between Delhi and major urban areas like Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut.
