Mitchell Marsh Aims for IPL Comeback Following Underwhelming T20 World Cup Performance
Mitchell Marsh aims to move on from an unsatisfactory ICC Men’s T20 World Cup experience, but the Australian all-rounder acknowledges that he has yet to find his stride in the current IPL season, where the Lucknow Super Giants are in urgent need of a revival.

Last year, Marsh showcased exceptional form, scoring 627 runs at an impressive average of 48.23, including a career-best 117 off just 64 balls against the Gujarat Titans. However, this season presents a stark contrast.

At 34 years old, Marsh has only managed 155 runs in six matches at an average of 25.83, falling significantly short of expectations. With three straight losses dropping Lucknow to ninth place out of 10 teams, Marsh understands that quickly regaining his form is vital for the team’s hopes. “I probably haven’t got going. I think you can maybe search a little bit too much at times,” Marsh told Reuters.
“I know that I’m probably one or two boundaries away from really getting going and it’s about being consistent with my preparations and knowing that it will come.”

With only two victories from their initial six games, Lucknow risks missing the playoffs for the third consecutive year, but Marsh believes there is still time for a turnaround.

“It’s a long tournament and we’ve got great belief that we can challenge the best teams in the competition … I think if we can put together a full 40 overs as a unit, we’re going to be very hard to break,” he stated.

Marsh played an integral role in leading the Perth Scorchers to victory in the Big Bash League in January and was set to make a significant impact in Australia’s T20 World Cup during February-March, but a groin injury limited his contribution.

Defeats to Zimbabwe and co-hosts Sri Lanka led to Australia’s first group stage exit since 2009.

“Pretty much every game is a knockout game with the way that it’s structured up … one failure can cost you a spot in the knockout stage,” Marsh commented, opting not to delve into how the team managed its early exit.

“Those conversations have happened behind closed doors,” he added. Marsh emphasized that his focus is now on helping Lucknow secure their first IPL trophy. “I’ve got great faith in this group … our best cricket is ahead of us,” he remarked.
