Even after recently surpassing Dhoni on the all-time run-scorers list in the league, Rahul downplayed this accomplishment, stressing that his attention is dedicated to team successes rather than individual honors.
“I wasn’t even aware I had surpassed Mahi bhai. While personal milestones are reassuring, what truly matters is winning as many trophies as MS Dhoni. Cricket is a team sport. Trophies are important, and being part of successful teams has always been my ambition,” Rahul shared on JioHotsar.
“I’ve considered whether there’s a switch I activate when facing RCB, but I haven’t discovered an answer. Chinnaswamy holds a unique place in my heart. Growing up there, I feel something special clicks when I play at that venue. So, a mental switch occurs when I’m there. It’s not limited to RCB; I’ve performed well in international matches at that ground too. Certain stadiums just resonate with you and give you a sense of confidence,” he remarked.
In reflecting on his role, Rahul stated that opening the batting provides him with clarity and stability, even as he has adapted to different positions, which has facilitated his growth.
“Being an opener simplifies my approach. It’s a position I’ve always thrived in, providing me with a clear strategy. Yet, batting in varied roles has been beneficial for my development and understanding of the game,” he concluded.
