As per sources from the Chief Minister’s Office mentioned by PTI, Siddaramaiah is anticipated to hand in his resignation later today and will hold a press conference at 3 pm.
This announcement follows a breakfast meeting in Bengaluru where Siddaramaiah reportedly informed his cabinet colleagues about his intention to resign upon direction from the Congress high command.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil stated that Siddaramaiah has communicated his decision to the ministers and indicated that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar would take over his role.
“The CM, referencing discussions with the high command, has expressed his intention to resign,” Patil told the media, according to PTI. He mentioned that the process for appointing the new chief minister would commence at a Congress Legislature Party meeting.
However, sources at Lok Bhavan informed PTI that Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot is presently in Indore for personal matters, and Siddaramaiah has yet to officially request an appointment with him. Officials indicated that the resignation might also be submitted to the secretary of Raj Bhavan.
The anticipated leadership shift comes amid renewed discussions within Congress regarding a rotational power-sharing agreement in Karnataka, following the completion of three years in office by the Siddaramaiah-led government.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar is widely regarded as the leading candidate to succeed Siddaramaiah, although the Congress high command has not made any formal announcement yet.
Earlier today, Karnataka Minister G Parameshwara noted that Siddaramaiah had organized the breakfast meeting to express gratitude to cabinet colleagues for their support ahead of his expected resignation.
“The Chief Minister has invited all the ministers for breakfast, and he wants to extend his thanks to them for their cooperation prior to his resignation,” Parameshwara was quoted as saying by ANI.
