Indian Railways to operate 62 special trains for Holi through Moradabad, connecting Delhi, Gorakhpur, Bihar, and the Howrah routes.

Indian Railways Unveils 650 Additional Train Services for Christmas and New Year Travel, with Western Railway Taking the Lead
Holi is one of the peak travel periods on the Indian Railways calendar, especially for the Moradabad division. To accommodate this surge, the Moradabad Railway Division has introduced 62 special trains to manage the seasonal increase in travel across North India.

The extra services will begin in the last week of February and will remain operational until the end of March, facilitating both outgoing festival trips and the return journeys.

The decision was made in advance to alleviate pressure before the busiest travel dates.
62 Holi special trains initiated by the Moradabad division

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Aditya Gupta confirmed that 31 pairs—totaling 62 trains—have been scheduled for the Holi period.

“Given the rising crowds for Holi, the Moradabad Railway Division has launched 62 special trains to run until the end of March,” Gupta informed ANI. He noted that these services will connect Delhi with Gorakhpur, Bihar, and Howrah, stopping at major stations like Saharanpur, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Moradabad, and Bareilly.

Although it’s a modest addition, Gupta explained that this is a relief effort during a time when fares and demand typically rise together. He also mentioned that more trains could be added if necessary.

Routes included: Delhi, Gorakhpur, Bihar, and Howrah corridors

The special trains will stop at key stations within the division, such as Moradabad, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Haridwar, and Yoganagari Rishikesh.

According to railway officials, movement patterns indicate heavy passenger flow in multiple directions during Holi:

Eastward toward Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Howrah

Westward toward Sabarmati and Ahmedabad

Southward toward Yeshwantpur in Bengaluru

Regular traffic toward Delhi and Punjab

“Our major stations like Rishikesh, Dehradun, Haridwar, Moradabad, and Bareilly experience significant traffic,” Gupta remarked, adding that eastern routes toward Muzaffarpur and Howrah see notable crowding each year.

Festival travel pressure

Travel from Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh to eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar usually peaks within a brief period.

The Moradabad division deals with a considerable volume of traffic during festivals. Gupta stated that booking trends are under close observation. If the demand continues to grow in the days leading up to March 4, additional services may be introduced.

For now, passengers are encouraged to check availability in advance and plan accordingly.
