Fadnavis Becomes Maharashtra's Third Longest-Serving Chief Minister, Surpassing Sharad Pawar
Devendra Fadnavis has now become the third longest-serving Chief Minister in the history of Maharashtra, surpassing Sharad Pawar, the president of NCP (SP), in cumulative tenure.

As of July 12, 2026, Fadnavis has served a total of 2,430 days as chief minister across three terms, exceeding Pawar’s cumulative total of 2,412 days over four terms, as per records from the Maharashtra legislature.

Vasantrao Naik remains the record holder for the longest tenure as Maharashtra’s chief minister, with an impressive 4,096 days (11 years and 78 days) in office, followed by Vilasrao Deshmukh who served for 2,686 days (approximately seven years and 129 days).
Fadnavis first took office on October 31, 2014, completing a full five-year term until November 2019. He returned briefly as chief minister for three days in November 2019, but had to resign due to an inability to secure a majority. He was inaugurated for a third term on December 5, 2024, and has since accumulated 585 days in his current term as of July 12.

Pawar, who held the chief ministerial position on four occasions, did not finish a full five-year term during any of his tenures.

With Fadnavis continuing in office, his cumulative tenure is anticipated to grow further, increasing the margin over Pawar on the list of Maharashtra’s longest-serving chief ministers.
