The total power consumption in July 2025 was 153.88 BU.
The higher perceived temperature, influenced by humid conditions throughout the country, boosted the usage of cooling appliances, thus driving up power demand and consumption, experts indicated.
The peak power demand surged to 270.20 GW last month, up from 220.74 GW in July 2025. This peak power demand approached the all-time record high of 270.82 GW recorded in May.
In May of the previous year, the power demand was 230.99 GW. Last summer, the peak demand reached 242.77 GW in June 2025, but remained below the government’s forecast of 277 GW.
Experts suggest that power demand will likely stay consistent in August, with humid conditions persisting during the ongoing monsoon.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted below-average rainfall for this year’s monsoon.
