President Donald Trump is set to make a rare visit to Camp David this weekend, marking only his second trip to the presidential retreat since resuming office last year.

A White House official stated that Trump will conduct policy and political meetings during his stay. His family will accompany him for the weekend, coinciding with Father’s Day on Sunday.

This visit comes as Trump aims to finalize a deal to end the war with Iran, while facing criticism over a temporary peace agreement that opponents argue gives Tehran excessive concessions.
Scheduled US-Iran discussions in Switzerland for Friday were canceled due to escalating violence in Lebanon, introducing new uncertainties about the timing of negotiations crucial for reopening the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping and restoring peace in the Middle East.
On Friday, Trump defended the Iran deal, asserting that Tehran came to the negotiation table in a weakened position.

“We didn’t meet out of desperation, Iran did. They are FINISHED!” Trump posted on Truth Social. “We’ll play out the 60 days. They get no money, not ten cents!”

Trump’s last trip to Camp David was in June 2025, where he conferred with top military leaders and foreign policy advisers regarding immigration protests in California, Iran, and the Gaza conflict.

The secluded retreat in the Catoctin Mountains of Maryland has not been a frequent destination for the Republican president, who typically prefers weekends at his properties, such as Mar-a-Lago in Florida and his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

A planned Cabinet meeting at Camp David in May was relocated to the White House due to unfavorable weather predictions.

In contrast, previous presidents have utilized the government-owned retreat—approximately 70 miles from Washington—much more often, for both weekend getaways and diplomatic engagements.
