Delhi Airport Publishes Ebola Warning for Travelers from Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan
Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi has released a health advisory for passengers arriving from or traveling through countries at high risk for Ebola, including Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan.

Travelers displaying any symptoms of the virus are urged to promptly report to airport health officials for screening.

The notice, titled “Attention: Passengers arriving from or transiting through affected countries,” targets those coming directly from Ebola-affected regions or those who transited through such countries en route to India.

The advisory follows a high-level meeting held by the Union Health Ministry with state officials to assess India’s readiness for the Ebola outbreak reported in parts of Africa.

“Passengers who have traveled from countries with reported Ebola cases and are showing any symptoms must take immediate action,” the advisory stated. Symptoms include fever, fatigue or weakness, headache, muscle aches, vomiting, diarrhea, unexplained bleeding, or a sore throat.

Passengers who have had direct contact with blood or bodily fluids of anyone suspected or confirmed to have Ebola must report to the airport health officer or health desk prior to immigration clearance.

The advisory further states, “Any traveler who manifests symptoms within 21 days of arrival should seek medical attention immediately and inform health authorities of their travel history.”

Officials confirmed that no Ebola cases have been detected in India thus far, but airport surveillance has been heightened as a precautionary measure.

“Please cooperate with health screening and public health initiatives for passenger safety and adherence to International Health Regulations (IHR),” the advisory emphasized.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP), “As of May 19, there have been 536 suspected cases, 105 probable cases, 34 confirmed cases, and 134 suspected deaths reported from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda.”

In the previous 24 to 48 hours, there have been 26 new confirmed cases and 143 newly suspected cases.
