Cybercriminals Launching Fraudulent Websites to Scam Individuals Pretending to Offer Cricket Match Tickets

Reasons Behind RCB's Decision to Move Two IPL 2026 Home Games to Raipur
Cybercriminals are setting up fake websites aimed at deceiving the public under the guise of cricket match ticket sales. Recently, the Cyber Helpline Data Centre (1930) has been inundated with complaints about these scams, according to police reports from Thursday.

An official statement from the Police Headquarters noted that these fraudulent sites look legitimate and are almost indistinguishable from real websites. This close resemblance has made it increasingly challenging for users to tell apart the fraudulent sites from the authentic ones.

Initial investigations indicate that many users stumble upon these deceptive websites through ads or links circulated on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and other social media, unwittingly falling prey to cyber fraud while trying to book match tickets.
Additionally, scammers are exploiting social media to lure individuals with offers related to online lotteries, schemes that promise double returns, high investment yields, and other appealing incentives.

The police have urged the public to carefully verify the legitimacy of any website or app before participating in online ticket purchases, investments, lottery activities, or other financial dealings.

“Please use only official websites and reputable platforms, and avoid clicking on unknown links, advertisements, or suspicious messages,” the statement emphasized.

If anyone suspects they might be vulnerable to online fraud or has already been tricked by a cyber scam, they should promptly file a complaint with the National Cyber Helpline at 1930 or the emergency helpline at 112.

Timely reporting is crucial to ensure necessary actions can be taken swiftly to protect funds and enable effective legal measures against cybercriminals, the statement concluded.
