Forrester will receive ₹75 lakh from CSK, as stated in an official announcement by the league. The left-handed batsman made his international debut for the Proteas earlier this year against New Zealand, having played five matches so far.
Overton has returned to the United Kingdom (UK) to assess the severity of his injury.
Who is Forrester?
Forrester hails from Polokwane in South Africa and has represented Knights and North West in domestic competitions.
He also participated for Rawalpindiz in the recently completed Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Throughout his career, he has played 31 T20 matches, accumulating 593 runs, including two half-centuries.
As a capable pacer, he has taken nine wickets, with his best bowling figures being 3/31.
Forrester also featured for the Johannesburg Super Kings (JSK) in the SA20.
It remains to be seen if he will step into the crucial No. 7 position in the lineup. CSK also has Matthew Short as an alternative, but he is primarily a spin-bowling option and arguably not as powerful a hitter as Overton.
Overton’s impact
Overton has been instrumental in the IPL season for the five-time champions, claiming 14 wickets and scoring 136 runs in 10 matches.
The injury to the 32-year-old England all-rounder adds to the extensive list of players sidelined mid-campaign or unable to participate at all.
CSK had previously brought in Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha as a replacement for the injured Maharashtra all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh.
The Chennai franchise has been without their former captain MS Dhoni, and they also lost top-order batsman Ayush Mhatre and seamer Khaleel Ahmed to injuries during the season.
