BJP Names Four Candidates, Including Pawan Singh, for Bihar Legislative Council Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its candidates for the 2026 Bihar Legislative Council biennial elections on Friday, naming Pawan Singh, Sanjay Mayukh, Anil Kumar Thakur, and Sheela Pandit as its representatives.

Pawan Singh, a Bhojpuri singer and BJP MLC contender, previously ran as an Independent candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Karakat constituency but was defeated by Raja Ram Kushwaha of CPI(ML) Liberation.

According to a statement from the BJP’s Central Election Committee, all four nominees have been sanctioned to participate in the Bihar Legislative Council elections set for 2026.
As reported by News 18, the candidate list features two upper-caste individuals and two from the Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs), highlighting the party’s effort to balance caste representation in the state. Political analysts consider this selection noteworthy given Bihar’s caste-influenced electoral dynamics.

NDA ally Janata Dal (United) has also put forth four candidates for the Bihar MLC elections, including Nishant Kumar, son of Nitish Kumar.

The party has nominated three candidates from the Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) category and one from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, according to News 18.

Elections for 10 seats in the Bihar Legislative Council, including one by-election seat, are scheduled for June 18. The deadline for submitting nominations is June 8.

This election is being closely monitored by both the ruling coalition and the opposition, as the outcomes could affect the political balance in the Upper House of the Bihar Legislature.
